Really impressed with the quilty of sound reproduction for voiceover work. Quiet, accurate.
High quality construction and lots of goodies in the box. We went with the signature version (without the USB connector) since XLR to a Focusright is a better way to get your signal converted.Very impressed. We tested this side by side with a Sennheiser MK 416, an MXL 2006, an MXL BD-1, and A Synco D2.Results: The Sennheiser was the winner. Incredible. But this NT1 was a close 2nd place. It’s a different kind of mic (cardioid condenser vs shotgun) of course, and picks up a wider field of sound, but in a well treated room that should make no difference. The NT1 was the most “accurate” of the bunch. High quality sound reproduction, quiet, precise. I can see why so many pros use this mic, at least when they start out.The MXL 2006 was almost indistinguishable, perhaps a bit “warmer” and “friendlier” sounding output. The bass voice SLIGHTLY preferred it over the NT1. The young female voice preferred the NT1. Both agreed it was hard to tell them apart. The Synco was garbage and stripped out all emotion, depth, made both people sound flat, and generally was outclassed by all the other mics, especially the Sennhieser it’s supposed to be chasing/imitating. It’s not even close. Stay away. The MLX BD1 dynamic mic was the surprise of the bunch, being a dynamic mic you have to get closer to it or be a loud person, it’s better for singing. In that arena it was the best by far. All the condenser mics stripped something out of the singing voice, it’s hard to describe but they took the life out, while the dynamic BD1 left it all in.Overall, for Voiceover or podcast work, the NT1 made both voices sound like they actually sound, very faithful and true. A great mic.

    Clean, Crisp, & Pro Quality
I have recorded music artists over 20 years and purchased over 10 mics. I have to say this one is the best mic I have had out of the two other good ones. Clean, Crisp Sound and true vocal quality!! I recommend this purchase for vocalist/musicians.

  3. Computer Geek

Quality build, natural sound, great mic
I was a little skeptical of some of the glowing reviews but no more. This is a great microphone. If there’s any coloration happening my ears can’t detect it. It’s smooth. Very smooth. If you’re doing voice overs or singing this is the mic to have.It seems to work best for up close vocals but if you have a preamp between it and your mixer/interface it would probably work really well for instruments. I haven’t tried it for that yet but I did notice, as others have, that the signal level is a bit lower than other mics. I’ll give it a try with acoustic guitar in a few weeks and update this review with the result.Somehow over the years I have managed to collect a pretty good collection of mics but in the two weeks I’ve had it this gem has become my #1 vocal mic, and it didn’t even cost an arm & a leg.

Very serviceable mic for advanced beginner VO’s.
Sound quality was as good or better than expected…or maybe it was me!

  5. Luis Ángel Saldarriaga

    Funcionando genial! Una gran compra!

    Not Bad At All
Well, it didn’t blow me away, but considering all the mics out there and the ridiculous pricetags on some, this one is not half bad at all. I’ve been in the VO business now for about 20 years and have dealt with a lot of mics. I even had a $7,000 Neumann U87 a few years back. Yes, it was nice, but my $700 Shure KSM-32 sounds nearly as good. This Rode NT1 is definitely worth the money, maybe as a step or two up from a pure amateur spot. It sounds decent and holds the balance pretty well. You could definitely do worse. And speaking of worse, Rode also puts out an NT1A. You would think it might sound a bit better than this one with that “A” designation. It does not. It’s terrible. If you’re looking for a mic that gives you a better than average sound for under $200, this one will work. Good deal.

  7. KVB
